简介：年过四十的阿娥（萧芳芳）性情直爽、心肠仁慈，相夫教子，伺候婆婆均得体，但是与坏脾气的公公却怎样也合不来。不久婆婆猝死，公公（乔宏）亦得了老年痴呆症，小叔小姑都不肯意承当赡养责任，恰恰公公谁都忘了，只记得阿娥。阿娥无法，只好事情、家庭两不误，累得心力交瘁。为减轻负担，她把公公送去老人院，结果自己却像丢了魂似的，直到把公公重新接回家中才定下心来。而公公听似疯癫的言语，看似幼稚的行动，都给阿娥带来难言的性命启迪……
